The photos above are taken from my grandparents house. My main objective for these photographs were to capture what i felt best resembled them as people, i wanted to capture objects and areas within their house which in someway was a part of them, a way of looking into their lives and discovering their personality's. The idea was also an adaptation of Julian Germains 'For every second' especially in how he too seemed to capture the man's interests and private life through the use of everyday objects found in his house.
When i arrived at my grandparents house i did have a plan of the certain areas and objects in which i was going to photograph, this was a continuation from the works i had done from my own home to which i wanted to juxtaposition. The photographs were aimed at showing clear differences within the two households such as technology, decor, furniture and overall layout. I also wanted to include the presence of people more within the photos ideally of situations such as housework or meal times, as i feel that these are the two main areas in which differentiation between my parents and grandparents daily life would be more prominent.
Overall i found the process really interesting and exciting. It allowed me to capture how i and other would see my grandparents, it made me more area of the differences between the two generations and households and how things have changed through time and traditions. In the end i discovered that i found it a lot easier for me to photograph my grandparents house rather than mine as i felt that it was very difficult to capture what best represented my parents as well as what others would find interesting. I felt that i possibly see things differently resulting in a lot of objects and areas going unnoticed mainly due to living somewhere for a long period of time, which makes me question if i should have used another persons house rather than my own. The main difficulty which i found with this shoot was the differences in space and angles which resulted in certain areas and objects being impossible to capture as a whole for example the bathroom which had to be shot in separate segments concentrating on one object at a time rather than two or three but to which i did find to produce more detailed ad interesting images.
